To the Editor:
A tremendous victory occurred Friday here in The Villages when the local MAGA group canceled their planned J6 event due to a tremendous effort by all of the local democratic forces who joined together in opposition. The MAGA press release explaining their cancellation was filled with lies. How can you claim to be a “huge supporter of law-enforcement and first responders” when you were going to hold an event in adulation of the J6 terrorists who literally inflicted hundreds of injuries to the U.S. Capitol and D.C Police on January 6, 2021 and in addition caused or contributed to the death of at least five officers, including Brian Sicknick?
It should be also noted that they did not promise to reschedule this event only that it may be delayed “until further notice.” They also falsely implied that the pro -democracy forces here would have potentially harmed or injured them. The opposite is quite true as many of them have been threatening and openly armed at their past events. They close with the sentence “Trump won, get over it.”Unlike MAGA and their fellow Trumpies, we pro-democracy forces have never disputed the results of a legitimate election. Yes Trump won in 2016 and 2024. But when those elections happened, we did not raise a mob to invade the sacred halls of Congress, defecating, threatening the lives of our elected representatives, call to hang a VP for certifying a legitimate election, or cause violence on our beloved law enforcement officials.
Please be aware MAGA that you have awoken a sleeping giant here in The Villages. The united pro-democracy forces here, comprised of Democrats, Independents, and yes Republicans, will fight like never before against any of your attempts to contribute to Trump’s efforts towards the destruction of our beloved American democracy.
