To the Editor:

When choosing a political candidate for any position, it is fair to trust what they support – at least until they prove otherwise. So, now we have a chance to select a replacement for Congressman Mike Waltz – a great Representative. The choice is between Randy Fine, the Republican, and Josh Weil, the Democrat.
Randy has a track record that anyone can review since he has been active in Florida government for some time. You can satisfy yourself, based on his voting record whether to vote for him or not. Oh yes, you can also consider the fact that President Trump has endorsed his candidacy to help him with his promise to clean up the swamp, including the Federal Department of Education.
By contrast, Josh Weil is campaigning on the fact that he is a teacher and supports the retention of the Federal Department of Education. Something I find astounding. Anyone who has been paying attention to our education system, or participating in it, knows the negative effect the Federal Department of Education has had on public education in our country – except Josh Weil!
There is no way, anyone who has been the subject of the Federal Department of Education’s ridiculous, non-productive, overwhelming regulatory malaise could possibly support retaining this wasteful, overburdening swamp – except Josh Weil! Where was he in 2020 and 2021 when they shut down all the schools?
Since the inception of the Federal Department of Education in the 1970’s, education in the United States has taken a steady downward turn. The only way to recover is to eliminate all the regulatory mess and put this money used to fund federal bureaucrats in the hands of state and local officials so that they can address their local needs.
I served six years, simultaneously, on two school boards in PA in the 1980’s. The common complaint from administrators and teachers was – please get rid of all these federal regulations that are nothing but a waste of time. We cannot do our jobs because of these overburdening regulations. Nothing has changed except that the overwhelming regulatory malaise has gotten worse!
When you go to the ballot box to vote for our next Congressman, remember what Josh Weil supports – wasting billions of your tax dollars on over-regulating our schools and funding thousands of federal bureaucrats who’s only job is to justify their own jobs by promulgating more and more foolish regulations that are nothing but a waste of time.
I believe Josh Weil, that is why I am voting for Randy Fine. When elected, Randy Fine will support the elimination of this wasteful federal agency and allow all those funds to flow directly to the states and local schools.
