A Summerfield man was arrested on a charge of battery after allegedly hitting his girlfriend on top of her head during a drunken argument.
Three deputies responded to a physical altercation at a home in Summerfield, early Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon the deputies’ arrival, the female victim advised that she and her boyfriend, 45-year-old James Cody Bolling, had been drinking and hanging out at his friend’s house. When they came back, they got into a drunken, “nonsense” argument. He then grabbed her by her hair, dragging her into the residence, the report said.
As the victim called 911, Bolling hit her on the head with his fist, and she ran out of the house. She sustained a lump on the top of her head, and her hair extensions were pulled out. The deputies did indeed see a medium-sized lump on her forehead and a hair extension in the passenger seat of her car, the report said.
Marion County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, but the victim declined any further medical attention. Meanwhile, one of the deputies met with Bolling who advised that he and the victim had been drinking that day. They got back to the residence, and she went ballistic. After being read his rights, he stated he did not want to speak and asked for a lawyer, the report said.
Bolling was subsequently arrested on charge of battery (domestic) and transported to Marion County Jail. He was released after posting $2,500 bond.
