A Summerfield man was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at his girlfriend’s head a day after sexually battering her.

A deputy responded to a disturbance Monday involving 31-year-old Mark Daniel Carter in the Belleview Heights subdivision in Summerfield,  according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, the deputy met the female victim who advised that she wanted to go to the Orlando Science Center on Sunday. Carter, her boyfriend, did not want to ride or drive the distance due to making long drives for work. He brought up local things to do instead, the report said.

The victim then confronted Carter about his problems and texting other women. She called him a cheater and wanted an explanation for his actions, which made him upset. She was in the doorway of the bedroom at the time, the report said.

Carter told the victim she had two seconds to get out of his way, putting a black handgun to her head. She stated, “What are you gonna do, shoot me?” He then picked her up and threw her across the room. She sustained an injury to her right foot in the process, the report said.

The victim did not remember if she was thrown before or during the argument due to her “blacking out” after the gun was pointed at her head. She followed Carter in a state of shock and confusion, the report said.

The victim and Carter had been in a dating relationship since Oct. 16, 2024. The couple had a few weeks break due to relationship issues, and they started “dating” again on Feb. 12. The relationship was intimate and sexual in nature, the report said.

The deputy observed the victim to be distraught, upset and crying. She was not exactly comfortable speaking to him without another woman present, so a female deputy came to the scene to assist. They then looked at the victim’s right foot which was swollen and had a large black and blue bruise covering most of the bottom, the report said.

Additionally, the victim advised that the handgun pointed at her head was the larger of two black ones, the report said.

Carter was found a short time later, and a traffic stop was conducted on his silver Ford hatchback. He was subsequently placed under arrest and read his rights, the report said.

Carter advised that the victim wanted to go to the Orlando Science Center while he did not, instead suggesting local things to do. She was not having it and went to lay back down. He was getting ready to go out with a friend and told her to please stay out of his way and not trap him, the report said.

The victim shut the door to the bathroom with Carter still inside and refused to let him out. He pulled open the door, and she jumped on his back. He got his stuff, picked her up and moved her out of the way, the report said.

Carter stated he had two black handguns sitting on the dresser that he picked up. He put one in his pocket without a holster and the other in his waistband. He then went out to the car and left, the report said.

Carter gave the deputy text messages wherein he apologized for what happened but would not clarify what for. He also showed messages where the victim repeated multiple times in different conversations that a firearm was pointed at her head and how scared it made her feel. He stated that she told him she was going to the police and would say whatever she needed to for him to get arrested. The deputy looked through the messages but did not find anywhere she said that, the report said.

Carter was subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and battery.

Meanwhile, the victim recalled a sexual battery incident from Saturday night. They were lying in bed together watching television when they started engaging in consensual sexual activities. They had intercourse for about 10 minutes, after which she got up and cleaned herself off, the report said.

The victim returned to the bed, and they started having intercourse again with her on her back. During this portion of the incident, Carter abruptly flipped her over to her stomach and tried to force himself inside her anus. He became aggressive with her despite her pleading with him to stop, the report said.

Carter was described as “pinning” the victim to the bed as he tried to force himself on the victim. He only stopped when she began to scream and cry, the report said.

The victim advised that they never had anal intercourse, as she was a survivor from a past incident of sexual battery. Carter was aware of her past trauma. He had tried initiating anal intercourse in the past, but she always told him to stop, the report said.

Carter was transported to the MCSO building for further questioning. He initially admitted to having intercourse with the victim while watching television. He denied any other type of sexual contact, the report said.

When confronted with the victim’s statement, Carter began to contradict himself as he changed his narrative. He amended his account to include him giving the victim oral sex as he molested her anus with his fingers. He later changed this to say he intentionally rubbed his penis on the outside of her anus during the incident, the report said.

Carter also stated the victim told him to stop his actions and she cried. When asked why he gave false information, he said he lied because he was “scared,” the report said.

As a result, Carter was also charged with sexual assault (victim 18 years or older). He was taken to Marion County Jail with bond set at $8,500.
