A man from China who does not have a driver’s license was arrested after he was caught driving a golf cart.

A deputy observed the driver of a green Yamaha golf cart, later identified as 65-year-old Zu Hua Huang, leaving the Parkwood development, located at the intersection of County Road 101 and Northeast 123rd Trail, Oxford, at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The golf cart left the roadway of the neighborhood and continued to drive southbound on the sidewalk of County Road 101. As the deputy caught up to the golf cart, Huang turned into the entrance and continued to drive along the roadway in the residential neighborhood of Bison Valley, located at the intersection of County Road 101 and Northeast 121st Ave., Oxford, the report said. 

The report noted both residential neighborhoods have multiple posted “No Golf Carts” signs at the exits and along the roadside of County Road 101. The deputy subsequently conducted a traffic stop. Using a language line translation interpreter for Chinese, Huang admitted he never had a driver’s license. 

Huang was subsequently arrested for operate motor vehicle without valid license (second conviction). The native of China was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $500 bond.
