The Wildwood Police Department’s 3rd Annual Memorial Day Community Event & Patriot Ceremony will be held at the Wildwood Community Center.
The event will be Wednesday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is the third annual year for this indoor community event which provides free lunch for several hundred attendees in the community.
Upon arrival, stop by the Big Red Bus to visit One Blood who is joining the WPPD for the third year collecting on-site blood donations starting at 10:30 a.m. Then take a moment to view the replica military vehicles by Florida Military Vehicle Heritage Group of Ocala before entering the building at the Wildwood Community Center.
Once indoors starting at 11 a.m., enjoy a free lunch and visit with more than 40 local organizations tabling the event.
At 12 p.m. sharp, the Wildwood Police Department will offer a full Patriotic Ceremony beginning with a bagpipe entrance by The Sounds of Scotland, The Villages. As the procession enters, each branch of service will be represented as they Honor – Remember- Celebrate the lost military men and women. The American Legion Tri-City Post 18 will display their Color Guard Team, and Tri-County Women Veterans will lay the wreath in honor of the fallen.
After the ceremony, stay and listen to Ron Cavanaugh, a member of the Disabled American Veterans who will share his story as a POW/MIA Representative.
The event will end at 1 p.m. with the distribution of 100 Midland Weather Radios for those who meet the need. This giveaway is in partnership with Citizens First Bank, just in time for the 2025 Hurricane Season, which begins on June 1, and to keep citizens safe and weather prepared.
