A Villager who is being sued by friends who were injured in a crash of a golf cart she was driving has a hired a big name law firm.

Julianne Marie Janny, 61, of the Village of Lake Denham, is being sued by a couple from Wisconsin who were injured in a golf cart she was allegedly driving drunk in 2024 near Colony Cottage Recreation Center.

Janny is facing a criminal charge of driving under the influence, but is also being sued in a civil case by the Wisconsin couple. To represent her in the lawsuit, Janny has retained the well known law firm of Bogin Munns & Munns.

Janny is facing significant potential legal consequences in both the lawsuit and her criminal case.

Janny was driving the 2023 Yamaha golf cart at about 9:30 p.m. March 2, 2024 when she took “a left hand curve too fast” near the intersection of Morse Boulevard and Colony Boulevard, near the Colony Cottage Recreation Center, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The golf cart overturned and landed on its right side.

Scott and Terri Moore of Hartford, Wis. were traveling with Janny in the golf cart when it crashed. Terri Moore was transported by ambulance as a trauma alert to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Janny, who was identified by her Wisconsin driver’s license, had a “heavy odor of an alcoholic beverage,” the report said. Her speech was slurred and she had “noticeable balance issues.” She performed poorly in field sobriety exercises. She provided breath samples that registered .210 and .193 blood alcohol content.

Janny was transported to UF Health-The Villages Hospital freestanding Emergency Room at Brownwood. She was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.

The couple’s lawsuit claims Terri Moore has suffered serious injuries, mental anguish and loss of income, due to Janny’s negligent operation of the golf cart. The couple is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.

Scott Moore was also injured, but not as seriously.

Last year, Janny admitted herself into a 60-day inpatient program at a facility specializing in drug and alcohol treatment in Jacksonville.
