Karen Castle Stackpole, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away in her home at the age of 75 in The Villages, Florida, surrounded by family .
Born on December 6, 1949 in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, Karen grew up with a strong sense of family. She was a graduate of Cox High School in Virginia Beach. In 1970, while working at The Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia, she met John, who later became her husband of 52 years. During their marriage they welcomed two children – Jeff in 1974 and Tracy in 1977 – who became the center of her world.
Karen dedicated over 40 years of her life to Brock & Beasley, CPA. She was known for her professionalism, hard work and especially the personal relationships she had with her co-workers and clients.
In 2014, she and John moved to The Villages, Florida, embracing retirement with enthusiasm. An avid golfer and billiards player, Karen found joy in friendly competition. She loved social gatherings and playing cards with her close friends, always bringing laughter and lightheartedness to every occasion. She especially enjoyed the company of her beloved cat, AJ.
Karen had a sharp wit, infectious laugh, and a positive spirit. She embraced life fully and found joy in the simplest moments. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and laughter will live on in those she touched.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, John R. Stackpole Jr.; son, Jeff Stackpole; daughter, Tracy Capewell (Mike); beautiful grandchildren Emily, Lindsay and Owen Capewell; brother, David William Castle; cousin, Sandy Stalls. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray William Castle; Helen Wooten Castle; aunt Polly Martin; uncle Jay Castle; aunt Lucy Castle; cousins Donna Ewing and Cathy Castle.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society or a charity of choice to reflect Karen’s generous spirit and love for others.
