In Isaiah 43:1 God says: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name, you are mine.” On May 30, 2025 at The Villages Regional Hospital in Lady Lake, Florida God called Lucie Alice Vallières Rogers by name and she is His.

Lucie was born in Québec, the French-speaking Province of Canada on February 27, 1951 to Albert Vallières and Julienne Audet Vallières.

Those who preceded her in death are her parents, a brother: Michel Vallières, three sisters: Aline Pendergraft, Louise Vallières, Diane Talbot, and two brothers-in-law: Marcel Talbot and Guy Lecours.

Lucie leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 56 years, Douglas Lee Rogers of The Villages, FL; three step-sons: Douglas John Rogers and wife Krista of Las Vegas, NV, Mark Rogers of Rome, NY, and Michael Rogers, wife Rebecca and their two children: Emily Rose Rogers and Andrew Michael Rogers of Raynham, MA. Lucie was the youngest of 8 children. Those siblings who remain are: Paul-André Vallières and wife Monya of Montréal, Canada, Audette Lecours of Lévis, Québec, and Lucie’s twin sister, Lucille Charon and husband Réjean of Ste Foy, Québec. She also leaves a sister-in-law Sally Rains of Burleson, Texas and a special niece Martine Anderson and husband William of Foxboro, MA who has been so helpful to Doug in relaying messages in French to Lucie’s family in Canada during her illness. In addition, Lucie leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to remember her.

Lucie came to the United States of America in 1968 after graduating high school to visit her oldest sister, Aline, who was living in Big Springs, TX. Doug who was a non-commissioned officer in the Air Force was stationed at Webb Air Force Base in the same city. He met Lucie and even though he didn’t speak French and she didn’t speak English, they eventually spoke the language of love and were married in Big Springs on March 22, 1969. During Doug’s military career, they also lived at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA and at Altus Air Force Base in Altus, OK. Lucie raised and nurtured three Poodle puppies: Gazoux, Buttons, and Nicole who were much loved and brought great joy to both Lucie and Doug.

After Doug retired from the military he became Assistant Postmaster in Bend, OR where he and Lucie spent 18 years, built a home and made many friends. When Doug retired from his second career, he and Lucie bought a home in Canada on the St. Lawrence River. They spent half the year there and the other half in their big RV camping at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. In 2006 they sold the RV and bought a second home in The Villages, FL. They have made many friends in their village of Alexa who love them and have been of great assistance to Doug during this time of loss.
Reading was Lucie’s favorite hobby. She sat into the wee hours reading on her Kindle e-book which lists hundreds of books she has read in the last few years.

Many of those books were Christian literature and she made side remarks in a personal notebook as she read. Her notes included favorite Scriptures she wanted to remember and ponder. Lucie made a concerted effort to stay in touch with her family and friends by phone to find out how they were and to share her news with them. At the end of the call she would tell them that she was praying for them and would ask them to pray for her and Doug, too. You could often hear Lucie speaking in French on the phone for hours while talking to her Canadian family, letting them know she loved and missed them. Lucie was warm and friendly to all and gave the best and longest hugs to everyone she knew. Lucie and Doug’s deep affection for each other was often noticed as they held hands to show love and support.

In John 11:25 Jesus leaves us with these words of comfort: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die, and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” Rest in God’s perfect peace, dearest Lucie. We love you, we will miss you and our world will seem smaller and less wonderful without you. However, our Faith tells us, we will see you again.

On June 20, 2025 Lucie will be laid to rest in the arms of her Creator and Savior at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucie Rogers’ memory to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, P O Box 70719, Philadelphia, PA 19176-0719 to aid first responders and military veterans.
