A new supervisor was appointed Friday to fill a vacancy on the Community Development District 1 Board of Supervisors.
Brian Goodman of the Village of De La Vista West will fill a seat previously held by Patsy Oburn, who recently opted to resign. Goodman had the backing of Oburn, who had been elected to the board in 2024.
Goodman has been living in The Villages since October 2022.
Goodman served as legal affairs and compliance coordinator for the Virginia Retirement System from 2006 to 2023 and from 1997 to 2006 he served as assistant attorney general in Virginia. He earned a law degree from the University of Richmond. He is also a certified public accountant.
Goodman was selected in favor 0f James Vaccaro, who represents CDD 1 on the Amenity Authority Committee. Vaccaro’s application for the CDD 1 seat was obviously dogged by legal opinions suggesting that a resident cannot simultaneously serve on the AAC and a CDD board. However, Vaccaro pointed out that Don Deakin currently serves on both the AAC and the CDD 4 board.
