An unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested for driving without a license after being spotted at a Pilot gas station in Wildwood with a suspended tag on his vehicle.
A deputy observed a silver Nissan passenger car parked at a Pilot gas station, located at 493 E SR 44, Wildwood, at 10:25 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the license plate showed it was suspended out of Tennessee. He watched the driver, 48-year-old Domingo Lopez Lopez, who lists an addresss in Tennessee, leave the parking lot before conducting a traffic stop on State Road 44 and Interstate 75,

Another deputy then arrived on scene and took over the traffic stop. He tried talking to Lopez Lopez, who did not speak English, so a Spanish-speaking deputy responded to communicate with him. He advised that he did not have a license and was only able to give them his Mexico identification, the report said.
Further investigation revealed Lopez Lopez did not have a Florida driver’s license nor a license in any other state, the report said.
Lopez Lopez was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. The native of Mexico was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $150 bond.
