A woman was arrested on drug charges after her Cadillac was pulled over on State Road 44 not far from the Lake Deaton Boat Ramp.

A deputy noticed the driver of a black Cadillac Escalade, later identified as 33-year-old Kara Mariah Weller, headed eastbound on State Road 44 with nonfunctioning passenger-side headlight around 10 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Another deputy saw it, too, and initiated a traffic stop.

Weller gave the deputy her driver’s license and vehicle registration, saying she was the registered owner of the vehicle. A K-9 unit responded to the scene and sniffed around the outside of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics, so she was asked to step out of the vehicle and standby while the deputies searched her vehicle, the report said.

A plastic grocery bag filled with women’s makeup and other feminine products was found in the backseat. A further search of the bag revealed three glass pipes with burnt and crystalline residue. It all tested positive for methamphetamine, the report said.

Weller was subsequently arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center to be held without bond.
