A drunk driving suspect was arrested at the town square at Brownwood in The Villages.
Edinson Amelines Quintero, 32, of Wildwood, was driving a black Honda at about 9 p.m. Friday in a reckless manner and almost collided with oncoming traffic, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle parked near the Brownwood town square. When a deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed “empty boxes of Michelob Ultra in the back seat” and detected the “strong smell of an alcoholic beverage” coming from Amelines Quintero. Because Amelines Quintero could only speak Spanish, a Spanish-speaking deputy was called to the scene to provide interpretation. Through the interpreter, Amelines Quintero admitted he had consumed a “couple” of beers.
He struggled through field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .105 and .089 blood alcohol content.
He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
