A Wildwood man was arrested for battery after an alleged attack on a woman that sent her to UF Health Brownwood Emergency Room.

Deputies responded to Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Wildwood, regarding a battery around noon Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, they met with the female victim who advised that she and 33-year-old Sidney Rivers Williams got into a verbal altercation earlier in the morning.

During the argument, Williams began to scream and cuss at her. She tried to get her belongings from the back bedroom of the residence to leave, and he followed her. He stood behind her while continuing to argue, the report said.

He then closed the door behind him and stood in front of it so she could not leave. She tried to open the door multiple times to no avail, as he forcefully pushed the door to keep it closed. She was eventually able to get out of the bedroom, but he followed her into the living room, the report said.

Williams proceeded to push the victim with two hands, which caused her to almost fall to the ground. He then slapped her on the left side of her face. She became extremely emotional and angry, knocking over a fan in the living room while walking back toward the rear bedroom, the report said.

Williams became angered by this and pushed her into a couch, causing her to fall and hit her head and shoulder on the wall behind the couch. She called 911 for help before calling her aunt, who told her to leave the residence for her safety. She left in her vehicle and drove to the park to contact law enforcement, the report said.

During their encounter with the victim, the deputies saw she was upset and crying. She did not have any apparent injuries besides a small abrasion to her left pinky finger. She stated she was feeling pain in her right arm and her head from hitting the wall, the report said.

Sumter County Fire Rescue arrived on scene for a medical assessment, at which time the victim was taken to UF Health Brownwood ER in The Villages, for further treatment. She later advised that she did not have any additional injuries other than the cut on her finger along with bruising and swelling on her right arm, the report said.

Patrol units responded to the incident location and met with Williams. He was detained and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. He would not grant deputies permission to enter the residence to see if there was any damage to the living room wall, the report said.

Williams was arrested on charges of battery and kidnap (false imprisonment of adult). He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $3,500 bond.
