An unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested after running a red light in front of a police officer, forcing him to slam on his brakes.

An officer stopped at a red light on U.S. 301 and County Road 462E at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. He started to go when the light turned green, but 37-year-old Jose Luis Salinas Garcia of Oxford drove through his red light in a white Ford F-150.

Salinas Garcia turned right onto the highway in front of the officer, forcing him to suddenly brake. The officer stopped the vehicle and asked Salinas Garcia for his license, registration and proof of insurance. He was instead given a Mexican ID, the report said.

A check of Salinas Garcia’s driving history revealed he never had a driver’s license issued to him in the state of Florida, the report said.

Salinas Garcia was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. The native of Mexico was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $500 bond.
