An unlicensed Honduran was arrested for driving without a license after being stopped for speeding on County Road 101 not far from Temple Shalom of Oxford.

A deputy spotted 42-year-old Fernando Adalid Hernandez Rivera in a black Toyota sedan speeding at 6:30 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Radar confirmed his speed to be 50 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone.

The deputy stopped the vehicle and spoke to Hernandez Rivera using Google Translate. He asked for documentation and ID, to which Hernandez Rivera handed over a Republica De Honduras passport. Hernandez Rivera advised that he never had a driver’s license in Florida or any other state, the report said.

A check through dispatch confirmed he never got a driver’s license. He was instead issued a temporary ID card by the Florida Department of Highway and Safety. However, there was an active suspension on July 25, 2023, for failure to pay traffic fine, the report said.

Hernandez Rivera was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. The native of Honduras was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $150 bond.
