A Wildwood man was arrested at Wendy’s after confessing to having marijuana in his possession even though he is currently on probation.

A deputy spotted a black 2013 Kia passenger car, occupied by 27-year-old Zairius Jaquad Scott, headed west on State Road 44 in Wildwood around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag revealed the registered owner was not valid, so he stopped the vehicle at the fast-food restaurant.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy smelled an odor of raw and burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The occupants denied having medical marijuana cards or any marijuana inside the vehicle to begin with. However, the plain smell of the substance led to the deputy asking everyone to step out of the vehicle for a search, the report said.

Scott came out of the backseat and told a deputy there was marijuana in his pocket. He then pulled out a plastic baggie of marijuana, which was obviously less than 20 grams. He also stated he was on probation and was subsequently placed in handcuffs, the report said.

A search of the vehicle followed, and the deputy found a brown hand-rolled cigarette inside of an ashtray in the front cup holders. It contained a green leafy substance that tested positive for THC marijuana, the report said.

Additionally, a check of Scott’s information revealed he had an expired medical marijuana card. His criminal history included one prior conviction for possession of marijuana on Aug. 25, 2022, the report said.

Scott was charged with possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams) and violation of probation. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center to be held without bond.
