A blood test is pending in the wake of a head-on collision this past week on a bridge in The Villages.
The release of an accident report by the Florida Highway Patrol is shedding light on the crash which occurred at 5:20 p.m. July 29 on the Morse Boulevard bridge at Lake Sumter.

A 39-year-old man from the Village of St. James was driving a gray 2018 Honda CRV utility vehicle southbound in the northbound lane of Morse Boulevard when his vehicle collided with a northbound blue 2024 Chevy Equinox, according to the report.
The driver from The Villages was flown by helicopter to Ocala Regional Medical Center. While he was being treated at the medical facility, a blood sample was taken as he was suspected of driving under the influence. The test results are pending.
The other vehicle involved in the collision was an Enterprise rental car, driven by a 61-year-old man from Royersford, Pa. His 59-year-old wife was traveling as a passenger in the vehicle. They suffered minor injuries, but did not require hospitalization.
