Villagers were left sweltering after a driver crashed into an electrical box in their neighborhood.
The driver was attempting to enter through the Village of Virginia Trace gate off Stillwater Trail at about 9 a.m. Wednesday when she discovered she was too far from the card access reader, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She tried to reposition her car but inadvertently reversed up onto the multi-modal path before accidentally accelerating forward through a landscape bed and a fence. Her vehicle finally stopped in the yard of 1007 Sayle St.
She was transported by ambulance to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages after complaining of back pain. She was cited for careless driving.

A SECO Energy crew was on-site repairing damage to the electrical box. The entire neighborhood lost power on a day when temperatures reached into the mid-90s.
