A Summerfield man was arrested on a multitude of charges after pointing a stolen firearm at several people while “tweaking” on narcotics.
Deputies responded to a disturbance involving 37-year-old Christopher Alton Obregon pointing a firearm at people in a Summerfield residence around 8:55 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The first deputy on scene found Obregon in the 9300 block of Southeast Sunset Harbor Road, about 75 yards west of the incident location. Another deputy spoke with two victims and three witnesses who were interviewed separately but gave similar accounts of what happened, the report said.
According to them, Obregon came to their residence uninvited at around 6:45 to 7:00 a.m. He drove around the back of the home in a grey Silverado, and because it was still dark, went over the septic system. It collapsed, causing his truck to get stuck, the report said.
He revved his engine as he tried to get free, which woke everyone up. They went outside and tried for over an hour to get his truck unstuck. They all described him as acting crazy, yelling and “tweaking” due to being on drugs, the report said.
Eventually, a friend of Obregon came and helped pull the truck out of the hole. The victims and witnesses then told him to leave, but his refusal to do so sparked an argument. Obregon proceeded to punch one of the victims on the left side of his face, pull out a firearm and point it at him, the report said.
The victim retreated inside the residence out of fear of being shot, and the second victim joined the altercation to “break up” the fight. Obregon responded by slapping him in the face. At that point, the witnesses screamed for someone to call the cops. He threw the firearm to the ground, dropped to his knees and begged for the cops to not be called, the report said.
A woman, who was not present during the investigation, allegedly got into Obregon’s truck and drove it to where law enforcement found it in an attempt to get him to leave. He did, walking to his truck until deputies got to the scene, the report said.
In an interview with Obregon, he stated at no time was a gun involved. He instead claimed he was jumped. He had no physical injuries to corroborate this allegation, though, and was placed under arrest, the report said.
Subsequent searches of Obregon’s person and truck revealed 25 total grams of methamphetamine and 8 grams of marijuana. Two glass smoking pipes found inside a backpack in the backseat tested positive for methamphetamine, as well, the report said.
Also in the backpack was a small North American arms revolver. In the front storage compartment of the truck was a grey-handled Palmetto State Armory Dagger 9mm pistol with an extended magazine, threaded barrel and a red dot optic. It had a bunch of sand on it, which matched the statement about the firearm being thrown on the ground, the report said.
A deputy was walking the gun back to a patrol car when Obregon’s cousin saw it and asked if it was a PSA Dagger. When told it was, he confirmed it was his and that Obregon was not allowed to have it. He showed the deputy an email confirming he bought the firearm. He had not seen it in a few days, and he did not know what happened to it. Obregon later stated the gun was not stolen but rather left in his car by his cousin, the report said.
A criminal history check showed Obregon was a convicted felon as of Dec. 17, 2023, for possession of a controlled substance and a firearm. He was also convicted of possession of a controlled substance and firearm/ammo by convicted felon on June 7, 2024, the report said.
Obregon was charged with armed trafficking of methamphetamine, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams), two counts of simple battery, possession of drug paraphernalia, grand theft of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was also charged for a Marion County warrant for fleeing or attempting to elude.
He was transported to Marion County Jail to be held without bond.
