Another 27 acres will be added to the South Wildwood Industrial Park south of the Florida Turnpike and about a half mile west of U.S. 301.
Commissioners approved the property’s annexation at their Monday meeting.
The property is contiguous to the city limits and within Wildwood’s joint planning area. City water is available to the site.
Planning Director Melanie Strickland said the expansion is close to a residential area and neighbors wrote letters opposing the annexation.
Austin and Ruth Daggett, who live across the road, wrote that some of the area is swamp land and under up to three feet of water after a heavy rain.
“Any construction or whatever on this property is bound to affect our water supply,” they wrote.
Another neighbor wrote that the industrial park would disrupt quiet country living.
“Build your industrial park somewhere else,” the neighbor wrote.
Mayor Ed Wolf said the area along County Road 519A once was a small airport with a grass landing strip.
South Wildwood Industrial Park was established in 2008 and Harry J. Harmer is president of the owners’ association. Harmer also used to operate Wildwood Auto Mart.
