In Loving Memory of Susan O’Brien

Susan O’Brien, a vibrant spirit and beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born on December 28, 1945, in Portland, Maine, Susan lived a life full of creativity, laughter, and love. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Kathleen Quigley and Colleen O’Brien; her cherished grandchildren, Caitlin and Grayson Quigley; and a legacy of warmth, humor, and generosity that will live on in everyone who knew her.

Susan moved to the Villages in 2018 after the death of her husband, Michael O’Brien. Losing her husband after 50 years of marriage was incredibly difficult. And yet, the friends she found here, especially her beloved Greg, and the life she made for herself filled these past 7 years with renewed joy and happiness.

Throughout her life, Susan faced challenges with remarkable courage and dignity. She met adversity with her strength, teaching those around her what true resilience looks like. Her unwavering spirit was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Susan was known for her generosity and enthusiasm, especially when it came to celebrating life’s moments. Holidays were her time to shine—never one to miss a reason to decorate the house or don festive attire, she created joy and tradition with every season. Her creativity knew no bounds, from her elaborate holiday displays to her artistry as an accomplished baker.

A gifted hostess, Susan had a unique way of making everyone feel welcome and at home. Her sense of humor was infectious.. She believed in the power of laughter to bring people together.

Susan was also deeply committed to giving back. She dedicated her time and heart to volunteering in support of veterans and active-duty troops, a cause close to her heart. Her generosity extended to her community and beyond, and her efforts left a lasting impact on many lives.

Though she has left this world, Susan’s spirit will continue to inspire. She taught those around her to find joy in the everyday, to give freely, and to never underestimate the power of a good laugh—or a perfect cocktail!

A funeral service will be held at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in The Villages on September 9, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. In honor of her memory, the family suggests donations to organizations supporting veterans and military families.

Susan O’Brien was truly one of a kind, and her light will be deeply missed.
