The Lady Lake Police Department responded at about 2 p.m. Thursday to a call from construction crews who discovered a body lying in tall grass at a construction site that has yet to  be developed at the corner of County Road 466 and County Road 100 (Cherry Lake Road). It is near the site of a new Walmart store.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of a deceased person in advanced stages of decomposition. The body has not been identified at this time.

The scene has been secured, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit is providing technical support to the Lady Lake Criminal Investigation Unit. The State Medical Examiner’s Office has been contacted and will be an integral part of the ongoing investigation.
