A Belleview woman was arrested for drunk driving after being stopped for speeding and admitting to having “just” two beers at a bar in Summerfield.

A deputy observed 60-year-old Gloria Darienzo speeding toward him in a black Jeep Wrangler in Summerfield around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Radar showed she was going 56mph in a 30-mph zone.

The deputy subsequently stopped the vehicle at 15400 SE 80th Ave. As he approached Darienzo, he saw her moving around excessively and quickly in the vehicle. She did not open the window for him at first but did once he firmly knocked on it, the report said.

He immediately smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Darienzo was jittery and seemed disoriented as she moved rapidly. She handed over her driver’s license before he finished introducing himself and asking for the routine documentation, the report said.

Darienzo then admitted to having “just” two beers. As she spoke, the smell of alcohol got stronger, leading the deputy to ask her to participate in field sobriety exercises. She agreed and took off her sunglasses, revealing red, bloodshot and watery eyes, the report said.

Her performance, which included trouble balancing and not following instructions, led the deputy to conclude she was under the influence. When told she was under arrest, she reiterated that she had two beers at DJ & Gina’s Lounge, a local bar at 16535 SE 99th Ave., Summerfield. She later provided breath samples of .066 and .064 as well as a urine sample, the report said.

Darienzo was charged with DUI and transported to Marion County Jail. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
