Shirley Lucille Alix, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at age 86. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born on October 21, 1938, to Sanford and Agnes Zephyrina Exzoria (Guilbault) Cota in Troy, Vermont.

Shirley graduated from North Troy High School in 1956, becoming the first in her family to earn her diploma. She was a dedicated professional, employed for many years at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in Bloomfield, Connecticut. On July 6, 1957, she married Laurier Joseph Alix at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in North Troy, Vermont. Following their marriage, they moved to Connecticut, where they raised three children. Later in life, after her retirement, Shirley and Laurier settled in The Villages, Florida, enjoying their retirement years together.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Laurier in June 2024 after nearly 67 years of marriage, as well as by her daughter Susan Alix. She is survived by her children Gail (Alvin Blair) Heywood, and Mark (Lori) Alix, along with six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Sanford and Agnes Cota, and her siblings, Floyd Cota, Margaret Willis, Madeline Doe, Betty Dobler, Bea Young, Sanford Cota Jr., and Marvin Cota. Her life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family, her warm spirit. She loved music and family gatherings were always so special with food and dancing. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends but celebrated forever in their hearts.

A Graveside Service will take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Granby Cemetery, 6N. Granby Rd. Granby, Connecticut, officiated by Rev. William Agyemang of St. Therese’s Catholic Church.

A luncheon will follow immediately at La Figata’s Restaurant, 9 Bank Street, Granby, Connecticut. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Please consider donating to either Cornerstone Hospice or the American Heart Association instead of sending flowers.
