A Silver Springs man was arrested with drugs, a firearm and ammunition after being stopped at Wildwood Townhomes.
A deputy observed 50-year-old Jeramie Steven Ruby driving a black Hyundai Sonata eastbound on State Road 44 around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag revealed it was assigned to a blue 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, not the Sonata.

The deputy watched as the vehicle turned into the parking lot of Wildwood Townhomes, located at 301 E Gulf Atlantic Hwy., Wildwood. He then spoke to Ruby who advised that he was not driving. He claimed the driver took the keys and went to Sunoco, located at 900 S Main St., Wildwood, the report said.
A K-9 then sniffed around the outside of the vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics. As a result, Ruby and the passenger were asked to step out. The deputy noticed the key to the vehicle in the driver’s seat where Ruby was sitting, the report said.
During the search, the deputy unlocked the glove box to find a clear baggie of methamphetamine and a handgun with a silver slide and a teal handle containing eight rounds of ammunition. A criminal history check revealed Ruby was a convicted felon, the report said.
A check of the vehicle’s VIN revealed it was not registered. The registration in the glove box belonged to a man in Volusia County who stated he likely left it in there when he sold it to Ruby, the report said.
Ruby was arrested on charges of nine counts of possession of weapon or ammo by convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license suspended (second or subsequent offense) and fail to register motor vehicle. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where he is being held without bond with a hold from Michigan.
