A resident of the PepperTree Apartments in Wildwood was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after having “a little” to drink while DJ-ing at a bar in Leesburg.

An officer observed 46-year-old David Cory Campbell in a yellow Kia headed north on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at 2:20 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. Radar confirmed his speed to be 75 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone.

As the officer turned around to catch up to the vehicle, it did not stay in its lane and drifted to the right. It then began traveling westbound on County Road 466a, and the officer turned on his emergency lights to stop it at the intersection with North Dixie Avenue. Instead of pulling off the road, the vehicle abruptly stopped in the middle of it and parked, the report said.

The officer used his loudspeaker to tell Campbell to pull into the parking lot of Circle K, located at 100 W Miller St., to which he parked crooked. He then asked Campbell for his license, registration and insurance. Campbell instead handed over his license a letter from KIA congratulating the purchase of the vehicle, the report said.

While speaking with Cambell, the officer could smell alcohol and saw he had glossy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and mush mouth. Campbell advised that he was DJing at Shamrock Lounge & Package, located at 1120 W North Blvd., Leesburg, and had “a little” to drink, the report said.

Campbell also agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, during which he spun and fell. He later agreed to give a breath sample because he was “in the wrong,” and it resulted in 0.179g/210L and 0.177g/210L, the report said.

The Pennsylvania native was arrested on charge of DUI and transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
