Basil Veglas, 85, passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice on October 5, 2025. He is survived by his wife Joanne Tates Veglas after 61 years of marriage. He was born in Boston, MA, son of the late Demetrios Veglas and Mary George Veglas.
Bill graduated from High School from Thompson Academy, Boston MA and received his bachelor’s degree with honors, from Northeastern University, Boston, MA.
He enjoyed golfing and music which led him to singing in the choir at St Mark Greek Orthodox church for 12 years after moving to Summerfield, FL from MA. He was the proud father of two wonderful sons, James (Stephanie) Veglas and Christopher (Gwyn) Veglas. He was also the proud grandfather of 4 loving grandchildren, Andrew (Kassidy) Veglas, Benjamin Veglas, Jack Veglas (fiancé, Hannah Goldman), and Sarah Veglas. He is preceded in death by his brother Michael Veglas. He is survived by his brothers Peter (Beverly) Veglas and George Veglas.
The viewing will be Tuesday, October 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church, Belleview, FL. The burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell FL. A mercy meal with be held at St. Mark’s following the burial.
