A Summerfield man was arrested for sexual battery after allegedly touching a woman in her sleep.
Deputies were notified of a sexual battery incident on Sept. 14, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The 27-year-old female victim advised that 30-year-old Scottie Brandon Hogans assaulted her while she was sleeping.
The victim explained that on Sept. 4, Hogans came over to an undisclosed residence to visit. Later in the evening, he was getting ready to leave when she told him that she was tired. She was going to lie down to watch TV on her tablet, and he asked to join her, the report said.
She agreed and allowed him into her bedroom. He rubbed her head and back while making several attempts to touch her inappropriately on her butt and lower body. She told him that she did not want to do that due to a change in her faith, and she would not allow him to touch her as it was a sin, the report said.
Hogans responded by saying he wanted to “marry” the victim, and he could not help but do those actions. She added that he did this often when he wanted to do sexual things with her. He would eventually “shutdown” and give her the “silent treatment,” the report said.
At around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 5, she fell asleep in her bed with him next to her. She woke up an hour and a half later, and he had a finger inside her vagina. She grabbed his hand and told him to sleep on the couch or leave, the report said.
A deputy also reviewed text messages between Hogans and the victim, which seemed to be directly related to this incident. In them, he appeared to be apologizing and saying he felt “so stupid.” She then confronted him about what happened, the report said.
Hogans responded by saying she “wanted” him to keep touching her. He stated they had slept together in the past and admitted to making “a move” on her. They continued to go back and forth, with him believing she was “just out to hurt” him, the report said.
At one point, he said, “I’m just a man, a man that craved being with you and you aim to hurt me in return.”
A detective interviewed the victim on Sept. 25, where she explained that she and Hogans engaged in less and less sexual activity over the past few years. She recently found her faith and wished to be celibate. When she discussed it with him, he expressed similar beliefs and wanted to be celibate due to his recent desire to become a pastor, the report said.
She also described an incident from years ago in which she and Hogans had been drinking together and went to sleep. She woke up to him “on top of her,” and she pushed him off. This was never reported to law enforcement, the report said.
At the end of the interview, the detective gave the victim a recording device to use if she made contact with Hogans. She recorded several conversations with him, one of which contained her confronting him. He acknowledged her saying she did not want to be touched “sexually,” that he put his finger inside her and that he was “so embarrassed” after that he had to leave, the report said.
Hogans was arrested Wednesday evening on charge of sexual assault. He was transported to Marion County Jail to be held without bond.
