A Lady Lake man was arrested on drug charges after an officer recognized him walking the street.

An officer spotted 43-year-old Robert Wayne Shores walking down the street around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He recognized Shores from prior encounters and learned he had an active warrant for burglary, theft and grand theft auto out of Lake County.

Seeing this, the officer stepped out of his vehicle to speak with Shores at Lady Lake Boulevard and Aaron Lane. He claimed his name was not Robert, but the officer knew who he was and detained him anyway. He then stated he did not know why he lied, and his ID was in his pocket, the report said.

The officer asked if he had any illegal substances or sharp items on him, to which he said he had “cream” in tin foil in the front of his cigarette pack. He also admitted having a hypodermic needle in one of his pockets. A search of his person yielded a hypodermic needle, a cut straw, two aluminum foil packets in a Newport pack and tweezers. He had an unlabeled prescription pill bottle with two types of pills, as well, the report said.

The two foils were later opened and tested, coming back positive for 2.96 grams of fentanyl and 3.28 grams of methamphetamine, the report said.

Additionally, Shores stated he was bitten by an unknown insect and pointed to his right knee. His entire leg was extremely swollen and discolored. Due to the injury and active puss draining from the bite, he was taken to UF Health Leesburg Hospital, located at 600 E Dixie Ave., for treatment, the report said.

Shores was ultimately arrested on charges of possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $32,500.

The Texas native was also arrested in January after being apprehended in a red Audi with a stolen license plate and in July 2023 after being caught with meth he claimed to be using “recreationally.
