A Summerfield man was arrested for battery after allegedly knocking his brother’s tooth out during an argument with his girlfriend.
A deputy responded to a battery involving 41-year-old Ortelio Lazaro Alfonso and his brother at an undisclosed mobile home around 5:40 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The brother explained he was arguing with Alfonso’s girlfriend in the kitchen living room when Alfonso came in through the front door. Alfonso started punching him, but he turned his body around without defending himself. He was left with a missing front tooth, another tooth bent backward, fresh blood in his mouth, and redness around his face and forehead, the report said.
The deputy tried to find Alfonso and an uncle, who witnessed the incident, at his residence on Southeast 26th Court in Summerfield. He instead saw a locked gate, a “No Trespassing” sign and multiple potentially aggressive dogs on the property. The lights were on, but no one answered when he knocked on the gate, the report said.
So, the deputy went back to the mobile home to talk to Alfonso’s grandmother instead. She stated she saw the brother get beaten up without defending himself. An inspection of the kitchen revealed a small amount of fresh dry blood on the ground, as well, the report said.
The brother later confirmed he had lived with Alfonso in the past, as they grew up together. He did not give a phone number for Alfonso, but the deputy was able to find one through the sheriff’s office. It went straight to voicemail when he called, the report said.
Alfonso was ultimately arrested a few hours later on charge of battery. He was transported to Marion County Jail with bond set at $2,500.
He was also arrested in March 2023 for slapping a woman’s face with a slice of pizza.
