A Villager was arrested on a drunk driving charge after driving the wrong way in traffic.
Jeanine Shepherd Erwin, 62, of the Village of Waters Edge, was found at about 9 p.m. Sunday standing next to a black Nissan Rogue which was facing south in the northbound lane of travel at the intersection of County Road 101 and Wedgewood Lane, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. When a deputy approached Erwin, “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” was detected.

She agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, but her poor performance led deputies to conclude she had been driving impaired. The Georgia native provided breath samples that registered .177 and .186 blood alcohol content.
She was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $200 bond.
