A Villager escaped serious injury when his helmet was struck by a golf ball while he was bicycling on a multi-modal path.
Jim Oxford, who lives in the San Pedro Villas, was riding his bicycle at about 2 p.m. Wednesday near the “Florida’s Friendliest Hometown” sign along County Road 466. He was heading home after playing pickleball at the Pimlico Recreation Center.
All of a sudden it felt like a brick landed on his head.

He was startled, he stopped and it took him a few moments to realize what had happened. Then he saw the golf ball on the ground.
Oxford picked up the golf ball and walked to the fence and waited for the golfer to come searching for the golf ball.
When the golfer arrived, Oxford showed him his helmet, which had a huge gash in it.
The golfer, who had been golfing on the Palmer Championship Golf Course, apologized.
Oxford, a safety-conscious cyclist, was certainly glad he had been wearing a helmet.
