A man who claimed he left his driver’s license at home was arrested when a deputy learned it had actually been suspended.
A deputy saw 36-year-old Leonardo Javier Mendez Vazquez of Ocala fail to completely stop at the intersection of County Roads 622 and 575 in Bushnell around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

As such, the deputy stopped him at the intersection of County Roads 575 and 622B. Mendez Vazquez told the deputy that he was “going to be honest” and admitted he did not have his driver’s license. He claimed to have left it at home in his wallet, the report said.
But a check of his driving history revealed his license had been suspended for undisclosed reasons. Due to this, he was arrested on charge of driving while license suspended and issued a written warning for the stop sign violation.
The native of Puerto Rico was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $500 bond.
