An Apopka man was arrested for driving with a license suspended for driving under the influence after being stopped for speeding with an obscured license plate.
An officer spotted 37-year-old Wilhelm Aleman speeding in a Subaru on Clay Drain Road around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. He was traveling at 40 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone, and the bottom half of his license plate was obstructed by a dealer plate cover.

A subsequent record search of the vehicle’s tag revealed Aleman’s license had been suspended since Sept. 9 for driving with an unlawful blood alcohol level. A permit was issued but expired on Nov. 18, the report said.
As such, the officer stopped Aleman at 1010 S Main St. He handed over a U.S. passport and stated he had a permit to drive for work purposes. However, a copy of the document on his phone confirmed it expired in November, the report said.
Aleman was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended (third or subsequent violation) and alter/obscure vehicle registration/license plate. The native of Puerto Rico was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center to be held without bond.
