A Summerfield woman was arrested after allegedly threatening to strangle a tenant who was late with rent.

A deputy responded to a residence on Southeast 148th Street in Summerfield regarding 38-year-old Desiree Rhiannon Toerpe sending a threatening text to a tennant on Saturday, Dec. 13, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The tenant advised that Toerpe was her landlord, and she showed texts exchanged between the two of them that day. Based on the messages listed in the report, the tenant had lived at the residence for two years paying $900 a month and taking care of the house where Toerpe’s mother lived. Toerpe wanted to call her about paying rent that day, which the tenant stated would be paid before the 31st.

Toerpe responded by saying she was “screwing” with her childrens’ Christmas. She added that she had lost her mother’s storage unit and had her phone cut off because the tenant did not pay on time last month. She then told the tenant to pay or be evicted, the report said.

The tennant stated she could not kick her out over that but agreed to have a conversation about it. Toerpe disagreed, saying she could find another tenant to pay $1,200 and do the same thing on time. At that point, the tenant stated she had never been given a lease, had been there for two years with everything in her name and would see her in court to get “every dollar” she sent back, the report said.

Toerpe retored that she would see the tenant that night with her hands around her neck. By sending that final message, she made a threat to harm the tenant who wanted to pursue charges. After confirming that the number who sent those messages did in fact belong to Toerpe, a warrant was issued for her arrest, the report said.

As such, she was arrested Thursday night on charge of intimidation (write/send threat to kill or injure). She was transported to Marion County Jail to be held without bond.
