Gary R. Miller, 79, of New Hartford passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 while on vacation in Florida.

He was born on June 12, 1946 in Utica a son of the late Venus and Jessie (Moyer) Miller. He was a 1964 graduate of Sauquoit Central Schools, and continued his education at Mohawk Valley Community College.

On June 1, 1968 at Grace Episcopal Church in Utica he was united in marriage to Charlene Ellis, a blessed union of over 49 years filled with much love and mutual devotion. Charlene passed away on March 13, 2018.

He was a member of the Sauquoit Masonic Lodge, the New Hartford American Legion Post 1376, and President of Special Metals Credit Union.

During his free time he loved to golf, loved traveling to the Villages in Florida and Aruba. He loved his family and cherished the time that he spent with them, especially his adored grandchildren. He had a magnetic personality and had many friends wherever he went he seemed to know someone.

Mr. Miller was employed with Special Metals in New Hartford retiring after many years of dedicated service.

He was a loving and caring husband, father, and Papa who cherished the time that he spent with his family. He is survived by his children, daughters, Laurie and David Cardone of Deerfield, and Michelle Miller of New Hartford. His adored grandsons, Kyle Cardone and his wife Kaitlyn and Ryan Cardone and Fiancé Tressa Jones, Sister’s-in-law, Suzanne Ernst and Sylvia Nelson. Special Companion Kathie Dieter. Many nieces and nephews including a very special niece and nephew Lynn (Terry) Collister. Predeceased by his siblings, Ronald Miller, Shirley Hagan, Norman Miller, Gordon Miller, Gerald Miller, also his brother’s-n-law, Donald Ernst, and Allen Ellis.

The family wishes to sincerely thank his two special friends, Ed Furgal, and Phil Bailey for their constant friendship and companionship.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home 3022 Oneida St. in Sauquoit. The Sauquoit Masonic Lodge will have a ritualistic service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery.
