An unlicensed driver from Guatemalan was arrested for driving without a license after being stopped for crossing into oncoming traffic.
A deputy patrolling in Oxford got behind 21-year-old Adelson Misael Perez Hernandez in a black Honda Civic around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

While following the vehicle, he saw it go over the solid double yellow line and into oncoming traffic on County Road 229 nearest the intersection of Northeast 107th Road. It then turned onto County Road 466 without staying in the proper lane. Due to this, the deputy stopped the vehicle near the intersection with County Road 227, the report said.
Perez Hernandez subsequently handed over his registration, insurance and passport. He advised that he did not have a driver’s license out of the United States or his home country, Guatemala. As the deputy reviewed the documents, he noticed the passport had no stamps from the United States, and no work visa was present, the report said.
The deputy also compared the registration and passport, which revealed Perez Hernandez was the registered owner of the vehicle. A subsequent check of his driving history confirmed he did not have a valid license anywhere in the United States, the report said.
Perez Hernandez was arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $500 bond.
