A Sumterville teen was arrested after allegedly brandishing a gun at a New Year’s Eve party.

Brian Lee Davis, 18, attended a New Year’s Eve party with a bonfire at an undisclosed residence in Center Hill around 10:55 p.m. Wednesday. While there, an argument broke out between two party goers, and the wife of one of Davis’s friends intervened to ask them to leave. Davis responded by getting in her face and brandishing a firearm from his waistband, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Davis became verbally aggressive, and she feared for her safety as he pointed the gun at her. He threatened to shoot her with it, so she pushed him away. He then punched her in the face, the report said.

He proceeded to wave the firearm around at the party, with multiple people in attendance, and stated he would shoot everyone. He also told the wife that he would go inside her home and shoot all of the children inside. At that point, her husband tackled Davis to prevent him from firing the weapon, the report said.

The husband put Davis in a headlock, after which he left the party. Deputies later found him a white puckup truck near the intersection of County Road 48 and County Road 713 in Center Hill. A subsequent search of his vehicle yielded a black Taurus handgun in the center console, the report said.

As for the other party guests, all appeared to be intoxicated and mildly uncooperative with law enforcement. They advised that a physical altercation occurred but did not elaborate. None of them besides a single witness stated they saw a gun, the report said.

Davis was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and battery. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $5,500 bond.
