Gwynda L. Hook, age 75, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026 at the Cornerstone Hospice House in The Villages, Florida, after a brief illness.

Gwynda was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 26, 1950. She was predeceased by her father, Col. Alden Kincaid; her mother, Mary Callahan Kincaid; her younger brother, Duane; and her older sister, Karen McArthur. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary; her sons, Ryan (wife, Tara) and Justin (wife, Karis); five grandchildren, Charlotte, Mila, Maddie, Jamie, and Teddy; her brother, David; her cousin, Jody; her sister-in-law, Diane; seven nieces and nephews; and a great-niece and great-nephews.

Gwyn was an Army brat and traveled extensively in her youth throughout the United States, Germany, and Japan. She never lost her wanderlust and shared that love of travel with her family. She graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and the University of Maryland School of Social Work, laying the foundation for a storied career as a clinical social worker in Maryland and New York State. Over four decades, she worked in a variety of clinical settings, including child protective services, juvenile services, home care and hospice, a children’s mental health clinic, a forensic mental health unit at a psychiatric hospital, and as a school social worker.

Gwyn had many interests, including reading, traveling, water aerobics, and socializing. Friends and family describe her as kind and giving, with a great sense of humor, a feisty nature, and a fierce love for family and friends. She was a strong advocate for social justice and was gifted in her ability to relate to and connect with anyone.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, and her kindness, compassion, and unwavering devotion to family and friends will be remembered always. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date in Maryland, with details to be shared with family and friends.
