Medford Barr, II, 83, of The Villages, Fl, and formerly of Lambertville, Michigan, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026.
Med was born on September 6, 1942, in Lakewood, Ohio, and was the son of Medford and Elizabeth (Jennings) Barr. Med was a 1961 graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received his bachelor’s degree from Miami University and then received his master’s degree from the University of Toledo and post master’s degree from University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Eastern Michigan State University. He married Linda L. Doane on February 8, 1964.
Med started his employment working at Champion Spark, while starting his teaching career at Bedford High School. While at Bedford High School for 37 years, he taught government, sociology, and economics. He was also served as the assistant athletic director, JV baseball coach, and Chairman of the Drivers Education Program. Med was a member of New Life Christian Church in Florida and attended Compelled Church in Temperance, Michigan. Med served Bedford Township as a trustee for 20 years, and on the park’s board.
He lived life with enthusiasm and joy, especially when it came to the things he loved most. An avid golfer, he rarely passed up a chance to be on the course, enjoying both the competition and the camaraderie that came with the game. During his ten years in The Villages, he was a devoted softball player, building friendships and staying active well into retirement. Few things brought him greater pride than cheering on his grandchildren, faithfully showing up to watch them play volleyball, basketball, football, wrestling, and every sport in between. He also loved to travel and cruise, embracing new places and making memories along the way. A loyal Ohio State fan, he followed his Buckeyes with passion, and he could often be found relaxing while listening to baseball games – a simple pleasure that brought him comfort and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Linda; children, Medford (Suzi) Barr, and Mindy (Tim) Schmieder; brother, Jim (Susan) Barr; grandchildren, Haley (Jeremy) Harris, Dylan (Lauren) Barr, Carson (Hannah) Barr, Evan (Gracie) Barr, Megan (Todd) DuCharme, Cody (Stephanie) Ott, Jacob (Ashley) Ott, Kennedy (Clinton) Jacobs, Christopher Ott, Katerine Stotz, Maxwell (Larissa) Schmieder, Niko (Claire) Schmieder, and Charlie Schmieder; great grandchildren, Josie, Savannah, Miles, Collins, Kinsley, Eleanor, Magnolia, Aria, Colton, Adilynn, Brett, Abel, Brynlee, Ryker, Boyd, Lillian, Jack, John, and one on the way, Charlotte. Med was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Richard Barr.
