A Summerfield woman was arrested on a warrant Wednesday for allegedly battering her soon-to-be ex-husband.
On the night of Jan. 11, a deputy responded to a domestic battery involving 39-year-old Courtney Garcia at her home in Summerfield, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, he met with Garcia who stated she and her husband have three children together but were in the process of getting divorced. He left the scene before law enforcement got there, the report said.
She further advised that he pulled her back by the right arm and got into a shoving match with her. He eventually picked her up by the front of her jacket and threw her into a Kia Telluride, leaving a dent. However, the dent looked skinny, like it was hit by a pole instead of a person, the report said.
The deputy later spoke to the husband who stated he came to the residence to drop off a school backpack for one of their kids. He asked Garcia to step outside for a civil discussion, during which he became upset over her inviting other men to the home. It was also at this time that she saw another woman sitting in his Toyota pickup truck, the report said.
Garcia started to aggressively walk toward her with her hands balled into fists, which she said was to tell the woman to get off her property. The husband tried to intervene by standing between them and putting his hands up without touching Garcia. She responded by hitting him twice in the face and once in the stomach. He described seeing white lights after the first two strikes, and he tried to block the third but was too “out of it” to do so, the report said.
Additionally, a juvenile witness advised Garcia was “lying” about the alleged battery. She was looking out the front window when it happened, and her account corroborated the husband’s statement. She added that Garcia hit her husband with her right hand, causing him to step back and leave the scene in his truck, the report said.
No injuries were seen on Garcia. Photos taken of the husband showed red on the left side of his face, the report said.
Garcia was ultimately arrested on a warrant Wednesday evening charging her with battery (domestic). The Hawaii native was transported to Marion County Jail to be held without bond.
