JoAnn Gibson, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 2, 2026.
She was born on January 24, 1949 in New Castle, IN to Marjorie (Bridgeman) and John H. Sweet. JoAnn lived most of her life in Indianapolis, IN, and moved to Summerfield, FL in 2017. She retired from Community Hospital in Indianapolis in 2011.
JoAnn was married to her loving husband Woodrow Nelson Gibson for over 60 years. JoAnn loved to travel, go on cruises, and especially enjoyed visiting the Caribbean and Las Vegas. She loved to spoil her grandchildren. JoAnn was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be missed by everyone.
JoAnn is survived by her loving husband Woodrow Nelson, daughter Marjorie (James) Waddick, grandchildren James and Nicolas Waddick, Ethan and Hayley Sweet, brother John (Nancy) Sweet, sisters Janie Cook and Betty Lou (Bob) Darling, as well as several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be February 11, 2026 at 10:00 AM, followed by Memorial services at 11:00 a.m., at Beyers Funeral Home in Lady Lake, FL.
Donations in JoAnn’s name may be made in lieu of flowers to The American Stroke Association.
