Cynthia Drury Clark
Throughout her life, Cindy Ann Drury Clark did things ahead of most all of us. This time, she has left this world and has gone to heaven. After living her last year with non-smoking, non-small cell lung cancer, she passed on January 26, 2026. She lived her last five wonderful years in perfect retirement – spending most of her time in The Villages, FL, as well as quality time in her beach condo in the Yacht & Tennis Club of St. Pete Beach, FL.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Page Clark; her brother, Robert Joseph Drury Jr. and his son, Ryan; and brother, Michael James Drury, his wife, Lori, and their two sons, Zach and Austin. At one time, she had 33 first cousins, who were mostly located in New Jersey and California.
She and Jim never had any children of their own, but were wonderful parents to a bevy of beautiful cats – starting with Napolean and Alexander, followed by the very special Indy, a black Persian, then later, Porsche and Natasha, then the beloved Tango and Charco and finally, Pasha Ann and Apollo. Cindy enjoyed the joy from the many cuddles and lots of purr-fect moments with all these gorgeous cats.
Cindy was born on March 13, 1955, to Robert Joseph Drury and Ann Mykietyn Drury at the naval hospital in Jamacia Queens, NY. Her Dad spent 26 years in the U.S. Navy and the family moved often – spending wonderful years in Newark, NJ, Honolulu, HI, Mayport, FL, Key West, FL, Keflavik, Iceland, Dale City, VA. Cindy was always incredibly active, running, biking, swimming, skiing, hiking. She was a cheerleader in high school in Iceland. She played both lacrosse and volleyball while attending the University of Mary Washington in Fredricksburg, VA. After earning her degree in Economics, she started her working career in Washington, DC, at the Bureau of Labor Statistics. During this time, Cindy was very active in the giant Ski Club of Washington, DC, playing tennis, volleyball, skiing and more.
At 28, she moved out to San Francisco, CA and began working with Applied Data Research/Tymshare selling mainframe software to fortune 500 firms. She also started a social club, “Creative Gatherings” a great way to meet friends. During this time, she met her future husband, Jim Clark. They would take a cross-country driving adventure and move to Norwalk, CT and later marry in 1988. They would spend 34 years together in CT, with Jim working for GE Capital and Cindy owning her own business, “Delightfully Yours – a corporate gift company.” She was very successful with her company even earning the “Small Business of the Year” in Norwalk. Cindy made a move into her final career, non-profit fundraising. She was the Director of Development for the world-famous Westport Public Library, where she was charge of securing donations of $24 Million for the transformation of the library.
During their life in CT, Cindy played USTA tennis and captained the “Wicked Wahines.” She and Jim then discovered the joy of bike riding and became very active members of the Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club. They would form a tremendous friendship with the Club riders, but especially with the “gang” of 14 close friends and bikers and enjoyed bike trips to Canada, Cape Cod, Long Island, Maine, upstate NY and many other wonderful places. Cindy also loved
kayaking in her 16′ sea kayak and even captained a team that kayaked 14 miles across Long Island Sound during “Kayak For A Cause.” At the time, the event was a world record for a large group kayak with over 250 participants. She and Jim also loved to kayak the rivers and lakes of CT and NY as well as the Long Island Sound.
During this time, Cindy and Jim experienced wonderful trips – cruising the western Caribbean on Royal Caribbean, a “practice” honeymoon in Acapulco, the “real” honeymoon in Australia, Hawaii, a European River Cruise – Amsterdam to Budapest, the Grand Canyon, Palm Springs, biking and touring in Canada, Italy and New Zealand.
Cindy retired in 2018 and Jim joined her the next year and then they moved on to their next adventure, active retirement in The Villages, FL. Cindy loved all the activities – throwing herself into dancing, biking, hiking, kayaking, Pickleball, and Platform Tennis. The second month in The Villages, Cindy teamed up to win one of The Platform Tennis group’s “Dilly Dilly” tournament. But most importantly, Cindy LOVED dancing, from the West Coast Swing to the Hustle, Ballroom, line dancing and modern. In The Villages, she was really in her element and would go on to perform with the “Sweet and Sassy” dancers as well as the Zombies in the “Thrill The Villages” dance group. She was elected as President of the “Penneloafers Social Club,” of the Pennecamp Village neighborhood where they lived. Cindy was active in multiple clubs and organizations in The Villages, including The Amigos Sports Club, Girlfriends of The Villages, Sabal Chase Ladies Club, The Villages Blues Society, and the UCONN Sports Club. She was an avid supporter of the UCONN Women’s Basketball team, following the team’s incredible success since 1995.
Cindy also served as Vice President of the Sumter Landing Bike Club and was in charge of bringing all kinds of interesting speakers into the club meetings. She and Jim rode several times a week with the club and even went with two other couples from The Villages on an incredible biking trip to New Zealand in January 2024.
Diagnosed with cancer in December 2024, Cindy continued to live her life to the fullest. In September 2025, she and Jim traveled out west and visited eight fantastic National Parks in three weeks. The parks were amazing and all different – Yellowstone, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Zion, the Grand Canyon and Rocky Mountain. In her last few weeks of her amazing life, she was at home, taking visits from family, friends, and neighbors.
A celebration of Cindy’s wonderful life is scheduled on her upcoming birthday date, Friday, March 13, 2026, and will be held in The Villages, FL (at Fish Hawk Recreation Center, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.). An additional celebration will be scheduled in Connecticut sometime after this first celebration.
