A Leesburg man was arrested for driving with a suspended license to use the bathroom at Chevron.

A deputy observed a silver Dodge Ram traveling southbound in Coleman around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A record check revealed the registered owner, 42-year-old Christopher Dale Shirah, had a suspended license as of Dec. 8, 2025, for an unpaid traffic fine.

A traffic stop was conducted as Shirah pulled into Chevron, located at 101 E Warm Springs Ave. He admitted to knowing his license was suspended, but he had been at a house down the road and had to use the bathroom. So, he drove himself to the gas station to relieve himself, the report said.

A check of his driving history revealed four prior guilty convictions for driving while license suspended, the report said.

Shirah was ultimately arrested on a charge of driving while license suspended and transported to the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000.
