A resident of Sumter County has filed a lawsuit against the owner of a Wildwood apartment complex, alleging that poor lighting and an uneven sidewalk caused him to trip and sustain permanent injuries.
William Clark filed the complaint on Dec. 29, 2025, in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court for Sumter County against The Villages Owner, LLC, the entity listed as owning or controlling the Cypress Commons Apartments. State corporate records show that The Villages Owner, LLC, is registered to California-based Lincoln Avenue Communities.
The lawsuit stems from an incident that allegedly occurred on March 10, 2025, at the complex located at 775 Huey St. in Wildwood.

According to the complaint, Clark was walking on a sidewalk at the property when he “unexpectedly tripped and fell due to a raised/uneven portion of the curb/sidewalk.” The complaint also cites “insufficient lighting” as contributing to the alleged fall.
Clark claims that the property owner had actual or constructive notice of the dangerous condition but failed to fix it or warn residents and visitors. The lawsuit accuses the property owner of negligence for failing to maintain the premises in a reasonably safe condition.
As a result of the fall, Clark claims he suffered “bodily and terminal injury including a permanent injury to his body as a whole,” along with pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, and mental anguish. He is seeking compensation for hospitalization, medical care, lost wages, and the loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life.
Clark is demanding a jury trial and seeking damages in excess of $50,000, exclusive of interest and costs.
