Douglas Dean Springer, known affectionately as Doug to his friends and family, passed away on February 8, 2026, at his home in Summerfield, Florida. Born on May 12, 1953, in Waterloo, Iowa, Doug’s life was a tapestry of dedication, joy, and music, woven through the years with love and laughter.
Doug bravely joined the Marine Corps at the tender age of 17, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. His pride in being a Marine was evident throughout his life, as he often shared stories of his service with a mix of humility and honor. The discipline and camaraderie he experienced in the military stayed with him, shaping his character and his approach to life’s challenges.
After his military service, Doug found solace and expression in music. His passion for playing the guitar was only matched by his love for his dog, Lupe, who was a constant companion by his side. Doug’s musical talent brought joy not only to him but to all who listened. His selection of tunes often reflected the depth of his emotions and the breadth of his experiences.
Above all, Doug cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted son, Nathan, and loving wife, Marjorie, who were the cornerstones of his life. His sisters, Donna and Cecilia, will remember him as the protective and caring brother who always had a joke at the ready to lighten their spirits. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Alex, Sela, and Jack, who will miss their grandpa’s playful nature and boundless affection. Doug’s nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends will fondly recall his ability to turn any gathering into a memorable occasion. He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Jeanette and two brother Art and Rocky.
Doug’s life was marked by an unshakeable optimism and a refusal to take life too seriously. His infectious laughter and penchant for humor made him a beacon of light in the lives of those who knew him. Conversations with Doug were never dull, as he had an innate ability to find the silver lining in every cloud and the humor in every situation.
Doug spoke with friends every chance he got, enriching his life with a community of people who valued his perspective and relished his company. He was a man who lived in the moment, loved deeply, and laughed heartily. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire laughter, courage, and joy.
