
Charles N. Johnson, 78, born in Williamstown, and last resided in Summerfield, Florida, fell asleep in death on February 16, 2026, at The Cornerstone Hospice, The Villages, Florida.
Charlie was born July 9, 1947 to George and Lovania Taplin Johnson. He attended APW schools and graduated in 1965. Charlie held many jobs throughout his life, most notably as a cargo loader for the Edmund Fitzgerald. He also worked for a time in Alaska, a place he dearly loved. He retired as a tractor trailer driver for many companies. Most recently he drove part time for Boomerang, retiring on December 29, 2025.
Charlie was predeceased by his second wife, Arlene Shalle; his step children, Roxanne, Michael and William; and his older brother, Robert (Bob).
Surviving are his children, Scott, Westdale NY, Sonja, Wisconsin, and their mother, Kay Smith; his stepchildren, Debbie (Nigel Kent), Camden, NY, Kelly, Florida, and Adelle (Timothy Kroll) Rougemont, NC; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Jim (Hahn) Augusta, Georgia, John (Marylou), Williamstown, NY, Grace (Craig Cox), Grand Rapids, Michigan, Harold “Pete” (Donna), Green Bay, Wisconsin, Gary (Vonny), Williamstown, NY, Lois (David Dupont), Williamstown, NY, Harlow “Bud” (Leona), Williamstown/ Summerfield FL, and David (Julie) Painted Post, NY.
Charlie was a self proclaimed procrastinator, king of satire and sarcasm. He loved to read, sit in the sun, and gather with his school chums when he was in NY. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
According to his wishes, there will be no services.
