Anthony Peter Franzolin, 65, who lives in the Azalea Villas in the Village of Pennecamp, was driving a black Yamaha golf cart at 11 p.m. Sunday when he pulled out of a parking spot at Lake Sumter Landing but did not turn on his golf cart’s headlights, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

During a traffic stop, the New York native, who had a woman in the golf cart with him, admitted he had been drinking Michelob Ultra beer at City Fire. He also said he has a heart condition which requires daily medication.

He agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, but his poor performance led deputies to conclude he had been driving impaired. He provided breath samples that registered .161 and .159 blood alcohol content.

A deputy found that Franzolin was in possession of two receipts from that night. One was from redsauce restaurant and showed that he had purchased two vodka seltzer beverages and two Patron Silver beverages. He also had a receipt from City Fire which showed he had paid for a pitcher of Michelob Ultra beer. City Fire had been the second stop of the night.

He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
