A Summerfield man was arrested on drug charges after a deputy found him passed out in a parked car at a pool in The Villages

A deputy responded to the Village of Dunedin neighborhood pool, regarding a suspicious person complaint around 7 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The complainant described a man, later identified as 48-year-old Tony Aaron Adams, passed out in a blue Buick.

Upon arrival, the deputy saw the car reversed-parked in the parking lot. He locked eyes with Adams, who immediately unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car. The deputy asked if he was OK and if he had any ID, to which he stated he was and gave his name, the report said.

A check of his criminal record revealed he had a writ of bodily attachment issued out of Lake County. Due to this, he was detained. He then asked if he could grab a drink that was sitting in the passenger seat of the car, the report said.

For safety reasons, the deputy said he could not but offered to grab it for him. Adams began pacing back and forth, and his expression looked panicked. When asked if there was anything illegal in the car, he stated his “buddy” may have left meth in the passenger seat, where his drink was. He then gave the deputy permission to search inside the car for narcotics, the report said.

The deputy subsequently found an empty box of 305 cigarettes on the passenger seat. Inside was a clear bag of methamphetamine. There was also a black sock containing a glass pipe with meth residue, the report said.

Adams was charged with possession of methamphetamine, drug equipment (possess or use) and withhold support (nonsupport of children or spouse). He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,507 bond.
